A Christmas story for Lucas

Here is how a story called "Lucas and the River's Message" might begin:

The houseboat gently bobbed on the icy river, its windows glowing with a warm, amber light against the deepening twilight. Lucas, sipping warm apple cider, watched the stars begin to prickle the inky sky. A sudden, sharp 'ping' against the hull startled him. He peered out, expecting a stray chunk of ice, but instead saw a small, ornate bottle, corked with a tiny, glittery star. Inside, a rolled-up scroll of parchment shimmered with an unusual, un-river-like glow.

What happens next? Lucas's curiosity is piqued by the mysterious message found in a bottle on the frosty river.
