A Christmas story for Theo

Here is how a story called "Theo and the Thrumming Ornament" might begin:

The aroma of gingerbread and spiced apples hung heavy in Theo’s busy bakery, even though most of the day’s customers had gone. He was sweeping up the last crumbs, humming a carol, when a soft, peculiar 'thrum-thrum-thrum' started coming from the large, industrial oven. It wasn’t the oven fan, nor any usual sound. It sounded like something vibrating quickly inside. When he cautiously opened the heavy door, instead of bread, he saw a single, perfectly spherical, golden ornament, pulsing with a gentle light, gently rolling back and forth, and from its surface, tiny, almost invisible sparks were flying.

What happens next? Theo discovers the mysterious ornament is more than festive décor, and its peculiar behavior points to a larger problem.
