A Christmas story for Levi

Here is how a story called "Levi and the Hum of the Gear" might begin:

Laughter, carols, and the clatter of cookie sheets filled Levi’s big, noisy family house. He loved the chaos, but sometimes, a quiet moment was nice. He’d slipped away to the attic, a forgotten corner filled with dusty treasures. Amongst an old trunk of ornaments, he found a battered, leather-bound book. It wasn't a storybook; the pages were filled with intricate, hand-drawn diagrams of mechanical contraptions. As he turned a brittle page, a small, silver gear, no bigger than his thumbnail, fell out, humming with a faint, almost imperceptible warmth.

What happens next? Levi stumbles upon an ancient relic that holds a surprising connection to Christmas magic.
