A Christmas story for Waylon

Here is how a story called "Waylon and the Thimble-Sized Gift" might begin:

Waylon’s big, noisy family house was a joyful jumble of Christmas Eve preparations. Aunt Carol sang off-key carols, Uncle Joe told booming jokes, and the scent of pine and roast ham filled every crevice. Waylon, a quiet observer amidst the cheerful chaos, was carefully arranging his collection of miniature toy soldiers on the hearth. He was just setting the last one in place when a small, exquisitely wrapped package, no bigger than a thimble, tumbled out from behind the logs in the fireplace, landing silently on the rug. It was tied with a tiny golden thread, and instead of a tag, a single, minuscule snowflake glittered on its surface.

What happens next? Waylon discovers this tiny, forgotten package contains a crucial message from an unexpected visitor.
