A Christmas story for Sofia

Here is how a story called "Sofia and the Mitten on the Pane" might begin:

Sofia’s small city apartment felt like a warm bubble amidst the sparkling urban lights. Her tiny, decorated tree, bravely holding its handful of ornaments, cast dancing shadows on the wall. She was just admiring a particularly lopsided paper star she'd made when a sudden, jarring *thud* against her windowpane startled her. It wasn't a bird, nor a snowflake. Pressed against the cold glass was a small, vibrant red mitten, intricately embroidered with a golden snowflake. It looked far too grand and perfectly made to belong to just anyone in the city below.

What happens next? Sofia carefully opens the window to retrieve the magnificent mitten, realizing its warmth and detailed craftsmanship are unlike anything she's seen.
