A Christmas story for Michael

Here is how a story called "Michael and the Weeping Reindeer" might begin:

The lighthouse lantern cast its long, golden finger across the dark, frozen sea, a comforting beacon in the vast night. Michael, perched on a stool, watched the icy waves crash against the rocks below. He noticed a strange, iridescent shimmer on the water, unlike the usual moonlight reflection. As it drifted closer, he saw it wasn't a reflection at all, but a single, delicate ice sculpture, shaped like a tiny, perfect reindeer. But as it bobbed near the shore, a small crack appeared, and from within, a faint, muffled sob seemed to echo.

What happens next? Michael discovers a fragile clue that reveals a deeper, more urgent problem on the icy waters.
