A Christmas story for Micah

Here is how a story called "Micah and the Mended Runner" might begin:

A thick blanket of fresh snow muffled the world around Micah’s cabin in the pines, making everything feel hushed and magical. He was stirring hot cocoa by the crackling fire when a peculiar, high-pitched hum vibrated through the floorboards. It wasn't the wind, nor the groan of old timbers. Following the sound, Micah ventured outside, lamp in hand, into the crisp night air. There, nestled amongst the towering evergreens, was a glistening, silver contraption, smaller than a sled but undeniably mechanical, and emitting a faint, almost musical thrum. One of its delicate runners was bent at an alarming angle.

What happens next? Micah discovers that fixing this mysterious device is the only way to ensure the most important delivery of the year.
