A Christmas story for Madison

Here is how a story called "Madison and the Wooden Messenger" might begin:

Madison’s houseboat rocked gently on the winter river, a cozy haven of twinkling lights. She was humming along to a carol when a sharp, clear 'thwack' echoed from just outside her window, as if something very solid had hit the icy deck. Peeking through the frosted glass, she saw a curious object nestled in a drift of snow: a small, intricately carved wooden bird, unlike any she'd ever seen, its wings spread as if in flight, its beak clutching a tiny, folded parchment with a single, urgent symbol drawn upon it.

What happens next? Madison’s discovery of the mysterious bird and its message will lead her on a vital journey across the winter river.
