A Christmas story for Lincoln

Here is how a story called "Lincoln and the Whispering Bell" might begin:

The snow lay thick and undisturbed over the fields surrounding Lincoln’s farmhouse, a white blanket shimmering under the faint starlight. Inside, the fire in the hearth crackled merrily, casting dancing shadows on the walls. Lincoln, tucked snugly in his bed, listened to the peaceful hoot of an owl and the soft whisper of the wind. Just as his eyelids grew heavy, a faint, metallic jingle echoed from the frosted windowpane, too delicate to be a sleigh bell, yet too clear to be a dream. He crept to the window and saw, half-buried in a drift, a small, intricate silver bell, glowing faintly.

What happens next? Lincoln, clutching the mysterious bell, soon discovers its connection to a much larger, more magical Christmas Eve problem.
