A Christmas story for Ellie

Here is how a story called "Ellie and the Mountain Mystery" might begin:

In the heart of the snow-laden mountain village, Ellie was admiring the twinkling lights strung between the chalets. The air was crisp, carrying the scent of woodsmoke and pine. Suddenly, a strange, metallic screech echoed from the highest peak, followed by a shower of what looked like tiny, shimmering wood splinters. It was too loud for an animal, too bright for falling ice. A moment later, a long, slender piece of polished wood, adorned with what looked like a tiny, intricate silver carving of a flying reindeer, landed with a soft thud in the snow just outside her window.

What happens next? Ellie’s discovery of a broken piece will put her on a path to mend more than just wood.
