A Christmas story for Rowan

Here is how a story called "Rowan and the Worried Toy Soldier" might begin:

The powerful beam of Rowan’s lighthouse swept across the vast, frozen expanse of the sea, painting the ice in stark white for a fleeting moment. Christmas Eve brought a deeper silence to the remote outpost, broken only by the mournful cry of gulls. Rowan, watching the icy horizon from the lantern room, was about to head down for cocoa when he spotted something utterly out of place. Directly in the beam’s path, balanced precariously on a jagged ice floe, was a single, brightly colored wooden toy soldier, its drum missing, and its painted face looking remarkably worried.

What happens next? Rowan discovers the toy soldier is more than just a decoration, and its predicament signals a larger Christmas Eve challenge.
