A Christmas story for Owen

Here is how a story called "Owen and the Purple Crystal" might begin:

The houseboat swayed gently on the winter river, a cozy island of warmth in the chilly night. Owen, bundled in a blanket, was sketching the frosty riverbanks when a soft 'plink' against the window startled him. He looked up, expecting to see a branch, but instead, a single, perfectly formed ice crystal clung to the glass, glowing with an internal, soft purple light. As he watched, the light pulsed once, twice, and then, a miniature, swirling image appeared within the crystal: a blurry, urgent message.

What happens next? Owen realizes this magical ice crystal holds a crucial, time-sensitive message for Christmas Eve.
