A Christmas story for Everett

Here is how a story called "Everett and the Empty Sacks" might begin:

The sweet scent of cinnamon and warm yeast usually filled Everett’s busy bakery on Christmas Eve, but tonight, a strange, sour smell mingled with the festive aromas. He was carefully icing gingerbread cookies when a small, crumpled note fluttered from the underside of the main baking oven. It wasn't a forgotten order, nor a child's drawing. Written in hurried, almost shaky script, it read: 'Flour gone! Suger too! Big trouble! Need help fast!' Beside the words was a crude drawing of a worried-looking elf, surrounded by empty sacks. This wasn't a prank; the note felt urgent, almost desperate.

What happens next? Everett realizes the bakery's troubles are much bigger than just a few missing ingredients, and he must act quickly.
